What is Laser Therapy?

Credit for the development of Laser Light is generally given to Albert Einstein. In 1916 Einstein outlined the methods by which electrons could deal with energy, thus coining the term "stimulated emission" and laying the foundations for the invention of the laser. In 1981 Arthur Schawlow received the Nobel Prize in Physics for his part in inventing the Laser. Laser therapy has been used in Europe since the 1970's. In the United States, the FDA approved Laser Therapy in 2001.

Laser is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Laser and LED or Light Emitting Diode therapy are known scientifically as Photobiomodulation. Laser Therapy uses light to penetrate tissue and affect cellular activity in the following ways: Stimulate cell growth; increase cell metabolism and regeneration; reduce swelling and improve blood circulation; stimulate nerve function; stimulate production endorphins to stop pain and reduce the need for medication.
